- Eligible Countries: All countries worldwide.
- The applicant must possess either a first-class or upper second-class honors bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification. If the results of undergraduate examinations are unavailable at the time of application, the Council may provisionally offer a scholarship contingent on the condition that the applicant’s bachelor’s or equivalent degree result is at least a first-class or upper second-class honors. If an applicant does not have a bachelor’s degree with first-class or upper second-class honors, they must hold a master’s degree. The Council’s decision regarding an applicant’s eligibility based on these standards is conclusive.
- Applicants must not have submitted two prior unsuccessful applications to this scheme, including strategic partner themes within it.
- Applicants should be new entrants to the program for which they seek Council funding and must have received formal acceptance from the relevant department or school.
- Individuals applying for a research master’s scholarship must not currently possess or have previously held a Council Postgraduate Scholarship.
- Applicants seeking a PhD scholarship must not currently hold or have held any Council Postgraduate Scholarship, except those that would permit them to achieve a research master’s degree.
- Applicants will be classified into one of two categories based on their nationality and residency.
For Category I, applicants must satisfy BOTH of the following conditions: they must be citizens of a member state of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland AND have resided continuously in an EEA member state or Switzerland for 3 of the 5 years prior to October 1st.
